At the Hall of the Intergalactic Council in Diamond City, FX’s hearing was underway. The Council members sat behind a long table, in front of which a witness stand had been set up. In the very middle of the Council members sat Zordrak, back to his smaller, purple self, with a sneer of contempt on his reptilian lips. The King of Twinkle-Twinkle had been supposed to chair the proceedings, but Zordrak had explained that the King had been unavoidably detained, and so he himself would be stepping into the breach. FX now stood quivering under Zordrak’s gaze, desperately pleading his case and hoping that the other Council members would listen to him.
“I have explained to you, ladies and gentlemen, my reasons for helping Mona the Vampire in her adventures, and presenting her to you in a favourable light, despite this Council’s instructions,” FX was telling the Council members, with a slight waver in his voice. “I accept that you have every right to be displeased with me for disobeying your orders, but I hope that you will appreciate my reasons for doing so, and understand that I was acting in the best interests of the many, many people on Earth who depend on Mona to keep their world free from evil, even if they don’t realise it. For this reason, I intend to prove to you that Mona the Vampire’s work is not only solely for the cause of truth and justice, but that it is critical to the fate of the universe! Surely, if this is the case, this tribunal should show me clemency.”
“You may proceed with this line of defence, FX,” Zordrak chuckled, unable to disguise the look of contemptuous smugness on his face. “The Council will take into account the validity of your burning desire to help Mona the Vampire, if you can prove that what you say about her is true.”
“Mona uses her vampire powers to defeat evil, and the work she does is crucial to the well-being of the planet Earth, and sometimes to the whole universe,” FX stated. “I draw your attention to exhibits five through twenty, which are Mona’s diaries chronicling many of her adventures.”
The Council members began to leaf through the pages of the journals with which they had been provided. Zordrak did not join them in this, but continued to stare at FX with cold, malicious eyes.
“Since I first met Mona, she has completed several perilous adventures at great personal risk, all for the good of her planet,” FX continued. “She is, as far as I’m concerned, a great heroine, and no tribunal will ever prove otherwise in my eyes!”
Lily, Dottie and Treguard were sitting at a table near the witness stand. They winced at FX’s words.
“He wants to be careful not to say too much stuff like that,” Dottie whispered. “They’ll find him in contempt of court!”
“Well, the court’s already in contempt of him,” Lily remarked, indicating Zordrak. “I guess he figures he’s got nothing to lose.”
“The first of Mona’s adventures with which I was involved saw her rescuing the Ambassador!” FX exclaimed. “It was this incident that started off my surveillance mission, as you well know, and it has brought us to this point. Since then, I have seen Mona save an unborn dragon from a skeleton army, risk sacrificing her own life for a petulant teenager she’d never even met before, defeat an evil dream spirit who was threatening to kill a bunch of people in their dreams, go up against a very dangerous mummy twice, first to save a boy who was half human and half ghost, and then again to save a couple of very important teenagers whose fate is intertwined with that of the entire universe! And that, of course, is a small fraction of Mona’s good works. As you’ll see, it’s all in the diaries.”
“Yes, FX, these diaries make very interesting reading,” Zordrak said insincerely. “And yet they’re bound to show Mona in a good light, having been written by the teenage vampire prodigy herself. Do you have nothing more objective to back up what you’re saying?”
“Yes, I do,” FX replied smartly. “Gentlemen, I now call my first witness – Lord Treguard of Dunshelm.”

Treguard took the witness stand, while FX moved to stand in front of it. Treguard stood proud and resolute, an expression of grim determination on his formidable countenance. He fixed Zordrak with an intense stare. Lily fancied she could see the reptilian monster squirm slightly in his chair.
“Please state your name and occupation for the court,” FX said to Treguard.
“I am Treguard of Dunshelm, the Dungeon Master of Knightmare Castle,” Treguard replied steadily. A few of the Council members threw significant looks at each other, obviously having heard of Knightmare. Lily and Dottie nodded in approval at this.
“Lord Treguard, how long have you known Mona the Vampire?” asked FX.
“A little over four years,” said Treguard.
  “Then you know her well?”
  “Yes, I’d say so.”
“And you are well aware of her adventures, both their content and significance?”
  “I am.”
“And would you agree with my assessment of Mona’s status as a great heroine, whose good works are vital to the well-being of the universe?”
“Yes, I would. You see, Mona first started getting involved in these missions when she first entered my world, Knightmare.”
“And has she completed many cosmically significant missions since then, Lord Treguard?” asked FX.
“She certainly has!” exclaimed Treguard. “She and her friends have saved the world more times than I can count. They’ve defeated many, many evil creatures, and brought peace and harmony to many different worlds. Perhaps the most remarkable achievement of Mona’s was playing a part in closing the Universal Eye, which would have brought death and destruction to the entire universe if it had been allowed to open fully. That’s just one example of Mona’s good works, but there are many, many others.”
“And it’s not as if these missions are undertaken for any personal incentive, is it?” FX continued. “The only reward Mona gets for risking life and limb every day of her life is the doubtful joy of selflessly fighting for the sake of others, yes?”
“Yes indeed,” Treguard nodded. “Mona gets no reward for her good deeds, and she asks for none. If ever Merlin or I ask her to do something, she jumps to it without any fuss, and she gets the job done at all costs.”
A murmur went through the Council at the mention of Merlin. FX noticed that Zordrak was scowling at his awed peers, so he decided to build on this.
“Ah yes, Merlin,” FX picked up on the reference. “That would be the famous sorcerer Merlin, who is renowned for striving to keep the universe in good order, would it?”
“The very same,” Treguard confirmed. “Merlin sanctions many of Mona’s missions. In his quest for universal harmony, he would have been lost without her, I believe.”
“Thank you, Treguard,” FX smiled. “You may stand down.”
“Just a moment, Lord Dunshelm,” Zordrak rumbled, as he stood up to his full, impressive height. “You haven’t been cross-examined yet.”
“And who’s going to cross-examine him?” demanded FX.
  “I am!” Zordrak exclaimed triumphantly.
“But you can’t do that!” Lily objected. “You’re supposed to be chairing the hearing – you can’t be the counsel for the prosecution as well!”
“Someone in your position is supposed to be impartial!” Dottie added. “Or don’t you know the meaning of the word?”
“Silence!” Zordrak demanded. “I am in charge of this tribunal and I can do what I like. I will cross-examine this witness!”
“It’s all right,” Treguard cut in, in tones of dangerous calm. “Let the monster ask its questions – I will answer them.”

“So, my Lord Dunshelm, you say that you have known Mona the Vampire for four years,” said Zordrak. “Hardly long enough to form such unwavering opinions about her work, wouldn’t you say?”
“Yes, I would say,” Treguard replied obstinately. “Four years can be a long time, particularly if those years are filled with the trials and tribulations that Mona has had to face.”
“Of course,” Zordrak smiled insincerely. “Now, let’s turn to the evidence in Mona’s diaries for a moment. While they do substantiate your claim to have met Mona just over four years ago, I am curious to know why she fails to mention you in any of her accounts for the two years following your first meeting.”
“Well, it is true that I was absent from Mona’s saga for some time,” Treguard was forced to admit. “My realm was undergoing a period of instability, you see, and I had to…”
“So when you say you’ve known Mona for four years, you actually mean that you met her four years ago, but you’ve only really known her for two years,” Zordrak interrupted. “Is that not true, Lord Dunshelm?”
“You could say that,” Treguard snarled. “But what does it matter? I’m still well aware of what Mona was up to during the time of my isolation – Merlin always kept me up to date. Everything I have seen Mona do supports what I said earlier, and that’s something you can’t dispute, Zordrak, regardless of how much you might like to.”
“You say that Merlin kept you well informed about Mona’s adventures,” Zordrak continued. “If he values Mona’s comradeship so much, why isn’t Merlin here testifying instead of you?”
“Well, he had a prior engagement…”
“Prior engagement my tail! If Merlin valued Mona the Vampire as an ally as much as you say he does, he would have come here to support her case. It’s obvious to me that you’re only here as a substitute, and that you, Lord Treguard, are not qualified to tell us anything relevant about Mona, so…”
“I will not take that from any man or beast!” Treguard bellowed angrily, silencing Zordrak’s tirade. “You question my qualifications to tell you about Mona? All right, then. Let me tell this Council a little bit about my qualifications, and then they can decide for themselves whether the word of Treguard of Dunshelm can be trusted!”
“Jeez, I knew we should’ve tried harder to find Merlin,” Dottie whispered to Lily.
“Don’t give up on Treguard yet,” Lily hissed back. “Let’s wait and hear what he has to say.”
“Some of the evils that plague this universe are indescribable!” Treguard exclaimed. “Creatures of such loathing and hatred that their very existence is devoted to causing pain and fear to others. I have met a great many of these creatures in my time. There is so much evil in existence, whatever time sphere you’re in and whatever planet you’re on, and to feel even a tiny fraction of the pain, suffering and horror that exists out there would be so unbearable as to tear your very soul to shreds! However, occasionally, there is someone prepared to stand up and fight against this evil – someone who knows that lessening its terrible effects, no matter on how small a scale, is a worthwhile and important undertaking. These heroes ask for no reward or recognition, and yet their presence in the universe makes things just that little bit more bearable. Mona the Vampire is one of these heroes, and so are Fantastic Max, FX and AB. Without agents for the force of good such as these, evil will only increase in this wicked world of ours. This Council aims, I understand, to make the universe a better place. Well, you can take it from Treguard of Dunshelm, someone who knows the true face of evil, that you will be failing categorically in this objective unless you exonerate FX and Mona the Vampire immediately! What’s the point of having an Intergalactic Council that goes against its very founding objectives? Ladies and gentlemen of all races, I urge you to make the right decision, or face the responsibility of blighting this universe still further with evil, death and destruction. I know that you feel affronted by FX’s disloyalty to this Council, but I pray that you will find it in your hearts to do what you know to be right. That, quite simply, is all I can say on the matter. I now leave the future of truth and justice squarely in your hands.”
Treguard left the witness stand at a brisk stride, and returned to his seat with Lily and Dottie. The Council members were all whispering audibly together, and most of them had clearly been impressed and moved by Treguard’s words. Zordrak, however, was staring around at his fellow councillors with a very angry, worried look emblazoned on his face.
“Treguard, that was brilliant!” Lily exclaimed. “Where’d you get all that stuff?”
“Oh, you know, you pick things up over the years,” Treguard shrugged. “Do you think they bought it?”
“Hook, line and sinker!” Dottie grinned broadly. “I think we’ve got this case in the bag!”
“Silence in court!” Zordrak roared angrily, silencing the Council members around him. “There will be no idle speculation in this courtroom! I insist that this trial be conducted strictly by official methods, and…”
Zordrak was interrupted as the great door to the hall flew open; a small black-haired figure stood purposefully on the threshold.
“Official methods!” scoffed the newcomer. “You wouldn’t know official methods if they jumped up and bit you in the tail, Dragon Breath!”
“Mona!” exclaimed Lily, Dottie, FX and Treguard.
“Did you miss me?” Mona grinned, as she strode her way into the hall, followed by the King of Twinkle-Twinkle, and then the Dream Maker. Zordrak’s eyes widened in horror as he beheld the three new arrivals.
“This trial is already underway, and you three may not enter this room until the proceedings are over!” Zordrak demanded hotly. “I am in charge here, and I insist…”
“Your insistences will have to wait, Zordrak,” the Dream Maker interrupted in calm but firm tones. “His Majesty, the King of Twinkle-Twinkle, has something of the utmost importance to tell this court, and he will be heard!”

The King stepped forward, and all the members of the Intergalactic Council turned to look at him. Zordrak remained silent at the Dream Maker’s behest, but if looks could have killed, the King would have been in serious danger.
“My friends, I am sorry to have to tell you that there is a member of this Council who does not deserve to sit with us, because he is, in fact, one of the most evil and twisted beings in existence!” the King exclaimed. “He captured me and kept me prisoner in his fortress of evil specifically so that I would be unable to attend this trial today, and this loathsome creature would then be able to manipulate the proceedings as he pleased. Were it not for Mona the Vampire and the Dream Maker, he would have succeeded. In some circles, this monster is known as the Lord of Nightmares, but to you he is better known as Zordrak!”
The Council began to whisper together once again, as Zordrak leapt angrily to his feet. FX, Lily, Dottie and Treguard all felt renewed hope that the trial was about to turn firmly in their favour.
“It is a lie!” Zordrak roared. “The King lies! The Dream Maker will speak up on my behalf! Come, my old friend, tell them the truth!”
“I will support you no longer, Zordrak!” exclaimed the Dream Maker. “I have been blind to the truth for so long, but I see it clearly now. You are all that the King has claimed, and more, and I will see you driven from this Council, and from the Planet Viltheed as well!”
“No!” Zordrak fumed. “This cannot be! You pitiful fools, I will teach you all to meddle in my affairs! Now that my secret is out, there’s really no need for me to hold back any longer!”
The Council watched in shock and horror as Zordrak began to grow. He shot up to his full height of sixty feet, his head slamming into the rafters of the conference hall. Most of the Council dived under the table, while Treguard, FX, Lily and Dottie moved to stand next to Mona, the Dream Maker and the King of Twinkle-Twinkle.
“I knew he’d do this,” Mona remarked.
“The Council has got to believe he’s evil now,” FX added.
“I think the time has come to deal with our friend Zordrak,” said the Dream Maker. “Anyone with me?”
“We all are!” Treguard exclaimed, as he drew his enormous broadsword from its scabbard. “Let’s put this dragon to sleep.”

Zordrak roared and bellowed as he thrashed his arms around wildly, threatening to reduce the conference hall to rubble. He then growled in anger and pain as three lightning streams hit him squarely in the chest, sent by Mona, the Dream Maker and the King.
“He can’t stand up against all of us!” Mona exclaimed. “Keep it up!”
Treguard rushed up to Zordrak’s thrashing tail, and attempted to slash at it with his sword. However, he was forced to leap up into the air as the enormous appendage swept towards him. He landed with a jarring thud.
“I’m too old for this,” Treguard sighed, rubbing his back.
“Treguard, look out!” cried Dottie. “It’s coming back!”
Treguard looked up to see Zordrak’s tail swinging at him from the other direction. He shook his head sadly.
“Ah, it’s a sad day when an experienced warrior is forced to rely on magic over a good sword,” Treguard sighed. “However…”
Treguard held up his right hand before him, whereupon Zordrak’s tail was brought to an abrupt halt before being whipped out from under the monster, causing him to hurtle to the floor with an almighty crash. This, combined with the lightning streams still trained on him, reduced Zordrak back to his original size.
“Hold your fire,” said the Dream Maker. “I don’t think there’s much fight left in him now.”
Suddenly, Zordrak leapt to his feet. He stared around at his attackers, clearly gauging his chances.
“You may have bested me this time,” the monster growled grudgingly, “but my powers will continue to grow and, in time, I shall be strong enough to defeat you all!”
“I will see to it that that never happens, Zordrak,” vowed the Dream Maker. “Your stranglehold over Viltheed is not as constricting as you think – I, and my new allies, shall stop your evil machinations, utilising the power of the Dream Stone to help us!”
Zordrak snarled and growled angrily, but he seemed to have nothing more to say. He dissolved into a cloud of red mist, and floated out of a nearby window that had been broken by his own thrashing tail a few moments earlier.
“I must go after him,” said the Dream Maker. “I’ll see you for the next Council meeting, Your Majesty. Farewell, my friends.”
The Dream Maker dissolved into a cloud of blue mist, and followed his enemy out of the window, with the intention of rejoining their battle back on the planet that was now made up of the Land of Dreams and the Land of Nightmares. The King, FX, Treguard, Mona, Lily and Dottie stared after the blue mist for a few seconds, while the members of the Intergalactic Council began to crawl out from under their tables.
“Well, I guess that’s that then,” Mona said with finality. “Zordrak’s evil will plague this Council no longer.”
“But what about my trial?” FX pointed out. “It’s not over yet!”
“My friends,” said the King, turning to address the Intergalactic Council. “In the light of the events that have just unfolded before you, I now have two motions to put before the Council. The first is the immediate dismissal of Zordrak from the Intergalactic Council, and a pledge to help the Dream Maker fight against his evil in any way that we can. All those in favour?”
All along the row of Council members, hands, wings, tentacles, flippers and all manner of other unrecognisable limbs were raised in agreement, accompanied by the odd emphatic cry of “Aye!”
“All those against?” asked the King.
Unsurprisingly, no one raised an appendage.
“Then the motion is carried,” smiled the King. “Secondly, I propose that all charges against FX be dropped forthwith, all documentation of these proceedings be expunged from his record, and his powers and intergalactic passport be returned to him immediately. All those in favour?”
Mona and her friends smiled in gratification as they saw every single member of the Council signal their agreement. The King asked for any nay votes, but there were none to give.
“The motion is carried,” the King beamed, nodding approvingly to FX. “Congratulations, FX, you may walk from this court a free man, and return to Earth at once, if you so choose.”
“Oh, I so choose all right!” grinned FX. “Thank you, Your Majesty.”
“Well, you should really thank Mona the Vampire,” the King replied. “She was the one who saved me from Zordrak’s evil clutches, and showed the Council the true face of the monster.”
“And you might thank Treguard, Dottie and me for organising your defence case as well,” Lily added.
“Oh, thank you all!” cried FX happily, as stars shot from his antennae in a celebratory display.
“I assume, Your Majesty, that I too have no further need to worry about any charges being brought against me by this Council?” Mona asked expectantly. “I trust that I have proved myself to you now.”
“Indeed you have!” laughed the King. “Go forth, Mona, and continue your good works – you have our blessing.”
“Well, thank goodness for that,” Mona said ironically. “That’ll make the whole experience worthwhile.”
“Come on then, guys, let’s get back to Earth!” FX exclaimed eagerly. “I’ve got a couple of friends there I’d like to check on.”

Mona, Lily, Dottie, Treguard and FX walked out into the parking lot, where FX’s rocket ship was waiting for them.
“Will Max and AB be back to normal when we get back?” asked Dottie.
“They should have reanimated as soon as the Council returned my powers,” FX explained. “Fang’s intelligence should have returned at the same time. I can’t wait to get home and see my friends – I was so worried about them.”
“Ah, I knew we’d come through in the end,” said Mona. “We always do. Even if that Council had found you guilty, I’d still have had a few words to say to them that might have changed their minds.”
“Then we may have only just avoided an interplanetary conflict,” Lily remarked. “I know what effect a few words from you can have, Mona.”
By this time they had reached the spaceship. FX opened the hatch, and they began to file inside.
“I can’t believe I’m going to travel in this thing again,” Treguard marvelled. “Why, if you’d told me this morning that I’d…”
He was interrupted by a tremendous crash of thunder, which was accompanied by a flash of white lightning, and then Merlin was standing between Treguard and the rocket.
“Ah, Treguard, there you are!” Merlin exclaimed. “I was so surprised, and a little concerned, when I returned to the Great Hall of Knightmare to find you missing. I’ve been looking everywhere for you.”
“Oh look, it’s Merlin!” Dottie exclaimed in aggrieved tones. “Now he turns up!”
“There was no need to worry, Merlin,” Treguard assured him. “I was just helping out our friends here with a mission they had underway.”
“Yes, so I see,” Merlin nodded. “Well, I’m going to transport myself back to Knightmare. Anyone want a ride?”
“I’ll come with you,” said Treguard. “You did come here especially to find me, and I think that one spaceship ride is quite enough for this particular twelfth century knight, for the moment at least.”
“Good,” Merlin approved. “What about you and your friends, Mona?”
Mona looked at Lily and Dottie, who both shook their heads at her emphatically.
“No thanks, Merlin, we’ll go with FX,” Mona replied. “It’s not our style to jump ship before an adventure is all wrapped up. I expect we’ll see you again soon, though.”
“No doubt,” agreed Treguard. “In fact, my niece was speaking to me about a small New Year’s Eve gathering at her house in Norwich, to which she wished me to invite you and all your friends, Mona. I’ve been meaning to mention it, but we’ve all been rather busy.”
“We’ll be there,” Mona smiled gratefully.
“I hope Fay’s got an ultrasound picture to show us,” said Lily. “That would be so cute.”
“Well, we’ll see you soon, then,” said Merlin, as he snapped his fingers to summon his magic lightning. “Farwell!”
Lightning flashed, and Treguard and Merlin were transported back to Knightmare. FX stuck his head out of the ship’s hatch.
“Are we getting out of here or what?” he asked.

The rocket came in to land in the back garden of the home of Fantastic Max. Once everyone had got out, FX fetched the sandbox from the splintered remains of the garden shed.
“I see it didn’t occur to you to remove the sandpit from the shed before bringing the rocket to life,” FX remarked.
“Hey, you’ve got nothing to complain about,” said Mona. “We came to save your bacon, didn’t we?”
“Yes, and I’m very grateful,” FX smiled. “And, fortunately enough, I can deal with the broken shed. Rocket and Roll!”
FX’s magic beams leapt from his antennae and did their work. Within seconds, the shed was fixed up as good as new, and the rocket ship had become a pile of sand in Max’s sandpit.
“There, now I can go and check on my friends,” said FX. “You three do know your way home from here, don’t you?”
“Of course,” Mona assured him. “Through the airing cupboard, back the way we came. But we’ll come with you to check on Max and AB, just to see that things are back to normal.”
FX led Mona, Lily and Dottie into the house, up the stairs, and through Max’s bedroom door. Max was sitting up in his cot, drawing a scribbly wax crayon picture on a small piece of paper. Of AB, there was no sign.
“Did it work?” asked Dottie unsurely. “Are they back?”
“I’m not sure yet,” said FX, staring intently at Max. “Max? Can you understand what I’m saying?”
Max put down his crayons and looked up at FX, a puzzled frown on his brow.
“Dirty Diapers, FX, of course I can understand you!” he exclaimed in surprise. “What do you think I am, some kind of mentally underdeveloped infant?”
At that moment, there came a banging noise from the wardrobe. The door flew open and AB backed out into the room, a feather duster clasped in his right hand. He was humming quietly to himself as he dusted all around the wardrobe doors.
“Oh, well, here’s everybody,” remarked the robot, when he saw the gathering in the bedroom doorway. “I told you FX couldn’t have gone far, Max.”
“Yes, but where have you been, FX?” Max asked. “You’ve had time to fly from here to Twinkle-Twinkle and back in the time you’ve been missing. And why have you got Mona the Vampire with you? You know the Council’s position on…”
“We don’t have to worry about the Council anymore, Max,” grinned FX. “They won’t be bothering us, or Mona, ever again.”
  “Why not?” queried Max.
“Because we’ve been to tell them to mind their own business, and we’ve streamlined their workforce a little,” Mona provided. “You won’t be having to waste your time spying on me anymore, Max, so you can go back to doing all those fantastic things you were doing before we met!”
“Oh, well, that is good news, isn’t it?” smiled AB. “I knew everything would work out in the end.”
“Mona, I think we should go now,” whispered Lily. “Everything certainly does seem to be back to normal.”
“Yes,” Mona agreed. “Well, FX, we must be on our way now. Thanks for the adventure – it was a blast.”
“Oh, thank you, Mona,” FX returned, as he shook Mona’s hand gratefully. “If ever I can do something to repay you, you know where to find me.”
“Thanks, I’ll remember that,” Mona smiled back. “See you, then. Come on, guys.”
Mona led Lily and Dottie out of Max’s bedroom, back towards the airing cupboard. FX closed the bedroom door behind them.

As they walked back through the Dream Caverns, Mona, Lily and Dottie found that they had a lot to talk about.
“You had us worried for a while there, Mona, when you didn’t turn up for the hearing,” said Lily. “Zordrak was up there lording it over everyone, there was no sign of the King, and everything seemed to be going to pot!”
“But as it turned out, Zordrak shot himself in the foot by kidnapping the King,” said Mona. “After the Council found that out, it completely ruined Zordrak’s credibility, and his vendetta against FX was shown to be the load of old crap it really was.”
“And does this mean that FX definitely won’t be spying on us anymore?” asked Dottie. “Are you sure the Council is happy to leave us alone?”
“Yes, I’m sure that little chapter in our lives is now closed,” Mona was certain. “We’re now free to fight evil without prying eyes watching and judging us, and I feel very relieved about that. FX and his friends are free to do the same as well, but that’s not to say that our paths won’t cross again sometime in the future.”
“So, what’s next on the agenda?” wondered Lily. “This New Year’s Eve gathering, I suppose. It’s only just over two weeks until the new year, which means that Easter is coming ever closer.”
“Yes, I’d love to find out some more information about just what kind of evil we’ve got to save these babies from before that fateful day arrives,” Mona mused. “Perhaps I’ll ask Merlin at the party.”
“You think he’ll come?” asked Lily. “He didn’t enjoy that party we had in Arnold’s bedroom, did he? Perhaps he’ll stay at home this time.”
“Hmm, well, I guess we’ll have to wait and see,” said Mona. “Still, we know that Treguard will be there at least – I can always talk to him about it.”
“I hope it’ll be a fun party,” Dottie remarked. “That William always seems to be a bit of a sour puss, doesn’t he?”
“Well, Fay’s always very nice and friendly,” Lily pointed out. “I’m sure she’ll keep him under control, if he comes to the party. He might be planning to go down the pub instead, for all we know.”
“Speaking of who might be coming to the party, Mona, I’ve been thinking about Treguard’s invitation,” said Dottie cautiously. “He did say to invite all your friends, didn’t he? I wonder if he meant…”
“I know what you’re getting at, Dottie,” Mona assured her. “I’ll have to think about that one.”

It was past midnight as Mona crept quietly upstairs and into her bedroom. She shivered slightly as she pulled on her bat pyjamas, but that only made the experience of slipping into the encompassing warmth of her bed all the more satisfying. Mona could feel a heavy weight on her duvet at the foot of the bed. She smiled happily to know that Fang was with her.
“I’m glad you’re back at last, Mona,” hissed a feline voice from the darkness. “Where have you been all day?”
“Oh, you know, same old, same old,” Mona replied. “I’ve just been sorting out a few problems, saving a few lives, fighting a few monsters...”
“Just the usual stuff, then?” Fang purred. “It never stops for you, does it?”
“Well, I have been invited to a New Year’s Eve party, and I can’t imagine that there’ll be anything too adventurous about that. Perhaps you’d like to come, Fang. Treguard did tell me to invite all my friends.”
“Yes, perhaps I will. Well, it’s good to know that you’re home, Mona. Goodnight.”
“Yes,” said Mona sleepily. “Goodnight, Fang.”
And so Mona drifted off to sleep, with another adventure put firmly behind her. However, there were yet others still in front of her, and the next one was to sneak up on her sooner than she had anticipated.
Part 3 of 3.

This is the twenty-seventh in a very large collection of fanfics I have written based around the excellent Canadian cartoon show Mona the Vampire.

The "guest star" TV programme is The Dream Stone.

This fic was written in November 2005.
